Júlio César Pereira
Founder of GFTeam — one of the most respected masters in jiu-jitsu
Júlio César Pereira started jiu-jitsu at age ten under Monir Salomão and earned his black belt from him. As a competitor he became a two-time IBJJF World Champion, a two-time Pan American Champion, an eight-time Brazilian National Champion, and a 21-time Rio de Janeiro State Champion.
In 1996 he began coaching the grappling team of Gama Filho University. When that program closed in 2007, he founded his own team with the same fighters — the Grappling Fight Team: GFTeam — based in Méier, in Rio's north zone. Under his leadership GFTeam became one of the most accomplished competition teams in jiu-jitsu, producing world champions generation after generation.
True to the Fadda line he comes from, Mestre Júlio César built a fighter house — Cachanga — at headquarters, so athletes from humble backgrounds could live and train. Deivid calls him, simply, "my master."
