Self-Defense, Learned Inside Jiu-Jitsu
We don't sell a separate self-defense course. At WDC BJJ, self-defense is what real Brazilian jiu-jitsu training builds — and your first class is free.
Self-defense, learned the way that actually works
Most self-defense is sold as a weekend course: a few techniques, a certificate, and confidence that has never been tested. Brazilian jiu-jitsu works differently. You learn escapes and control against partners who are actually resisting — supervised, scaled, and repeated until the skill is yours. That's why self-defense at WDC BJJ lives inside our jiu-jitsu classes, not in a separate product.
For kids
Confidence, voice, and boundaries first — then physical escapes and control, taught age-appropriately. We teach children to avoid trouble, speak up, and get free and get help. Never "bully-proof" promises; real skills and real confidence.
For women
Escapes and control from the positions that matter most — taught by our women's program head coach in women's-only sessions, where self-defense is woven into complete jiu-jitsu training.
For teens
Composure under pressure, athletic confidence, and leverage-based technique that doesn't depend on being the biggest person in the room.
For adults
The full fundamentals: falling safely, escaping bad positions, controlling an opponent, and staying calm while you do it — the core curriculum of our beginner program.

Everything you're wondering
No — and that's deliberate. We don't sell a separate, watered-down self-defense course. Self-defense is a core outcome of Brazilian jiu-jitsu training itself, learned inside real classes with live, supervised practice.
Confidence, a strong voice, clear boundaries, and physical escapes — how to stay calm, break free, and get to safety. Kids train age-appropriate technique with coaches on the floor, and parents are welcome to watch.
In our women's-only program, led by our women's program head coach. Self-defense there means leverage-based escapes and control from bad positions, built class by class — start with a free trial session.
We won't promise timelines or guaranteed outcomes — anyone who does is selling you something. What training builds, steadily, is real skill: escapes and control that hold up because you practice them against resisting partners, with coaching.
Occasionally, as community events — when one is scheduled, it's announced on our Offers & Events page as an event, never sold as a separate curriculum.
Programs vary by how often you train, and we don't publish prices online. Come try a free class, and we'll walk you through the option that fits your family — with no contracts or long-term commitment.
